Job summary:
The CEDOC Cell Death and Disease Lab, in Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, Oeiras, opens am application to recruit a research fellow under the project FCT-ANR/NEU-NMC/0022/2012, entitled "Estratégias mecanísticas e translacionais sobre o monóxido de carbono como modulador da neuroinflamação e neuroprotecção em células de glia" Financed by National Funding from FCT/MCTES.

Admission requirements:
1. Degree in Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Biochemistry with an average of 14 values or higher.
2. Master Degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, Biochemistry opr related areas with an average of 18 values or higher.
3. Experience in animal manipulation (rodents), preferably with the animal handling certificate.
4. Experinece in Molecular and cellular Biology laboratory techniques, namely: isolation and maintenance of brain primary cell cultures; protein analysis, fluorescence microscopy techniques.

Work Plan:
1. Neural cell primary cultures (astrocites and neurons)
2. in vivo models of cerebral ischemia (Vannucci and MCAO model)
3. Protein analysis with Western Blot and immunofluorecence.
4. Histological analysis, specially immunohistochemistry.
5. Development of functional studies on the role of carbon monoxide in neuroprotection, neuroinflammation and cellular metabolism.

Legislation and regulations:
12 months under the regime of exclusive dedication according to the Law N º. 40/2004 of 18 August (Status of Scientific Research Fellow); Grants Regulation Research Foundation for Science and Technology, IP-2012.

Workplace:
The work will be developed at the Centre for Chronic Diseases in CEDOC@IGC, Campus do Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência , under the scientific guidance of Prof. Doutora Helena Vieira.

Length (s) grant (s):
The Grant will have the duration of 12 meses, with foreseen commencing date on Jully 1st, 2013.

Value of monthly maintenance allowance:
The grant corresponds to 980 € according to the table of values of grants awarded directly by FCT, IP Country (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores).

Selection methods:
Selection methods to be used are the following: curriculum evaluation and interview, each corresponding to 50% of the valuation.

Form of advertising / notification of the results:
