PhD PROGRAMMES
- PhD4BIOMEDICINE - Science made by people and for people

This PhD in Biomedicine will enable students to develop the conceptual tools and methodologies and apply them to biomedicine. The main goal is to endow students with a multidisciplinary training required to be at the forefront of research in biomedicine.
- Pro-RegeM - PhD PROGRAMME in MECHANISMS of DISEASE and REGENERATIVE MEDICINE
At Pro-RegeM we aim to educate and inspire a new generation of scientists with a strong knowledge in fundamental biology so that they can develop a broader vision on translation medicine with particular emphasis on regenerative medicine.
This basic knowledge will allow them to develop robust skills to enroll on academic and non-academic careers in the field. This is made possible by the IBB/CBME-UALG and CEDOC-FCM/UNL intertwined research interests, which have resulted in long standing collaborations in several research projects.
There will be a significant emphasis on hypothesis-driven collaborative research projects between CBME/IBB and CEDOC, and the curricular structure of this programme is organized into a group of core graduate courses taught jointly by participant and collaborator institutions.
- INTERNATIONAL DOCTORAL PROGRAMME in HEALTH SCIENCES
The PhD in Health Sciences aspires to be a reference oh high quality in the field of Health Sciences, by stimulating the development of hugh quality research projects at an international level, promoting interdisciplinarity in this vast and important area of study, using the existing skills and resources of excellence for its research guidelines:
■ Chronic Diseases and Aging
■ Population Health and Nutrition
■ New Cellular and Molecular Therapies
- PhD PROGRAMME in MEDICINE
This PhD Programme has as general objective ensure a complete formation of researchers capable of creating and developing original scientific projects in an autonomous way, contributing to the generation of critical mass in the institutions, and the increase of researchers in Portugal and in Europe.
MASTER DEGREES
- MASTER in CLINICAL RESEARCH MANAGEMENT - MEGIC
The MEGIC is a master's degree in partnership between Universidade de Aveiro (UA) and Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL). UNL collaborates in this course with NOVA Medical School (NMS), NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS) and National School of Public Health.
MEGIC aims to train highly qualified human resources to professionalize and to capacitate clinical research in health care facilities, universities, academic centres, biobanks, pharmaceutical and healthcare technology companies, clinical research organizations, and others.
- NOVA BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH - NBR
NOVA Biomedical Research is a master programme of NOVA Medical School that will equip the students with the core skills required for an outstanding career in Biomedical research. The curriculum of the NBR is based on advanced training courses, seminars and tutorials that provide the core skills that are required to anyone wishing to pursue a career in science. Alongside the students will also have the opportunity to specialise in one of the four branches of the course:
■ Ageing and Chronic Diseases
■ Neurosciences
■ Oncobiology
■ Regenerative Medicine
- MASTER’S DEGREE in EPIDEMIOLOGY, BIOSTATISTICS AND HEALTH RESEARCH - EPIBIS
EPIBIS is the result of a partnership between NOVA Medical School - Faculdade de Ciências Médicas (NMS) and Escola Nacional de Saúde Pública (ENSP-NOVA) that aims to provide those taking part with epidemiological research methodologies and knowledge in order to enable them to elaborate and develop independent epidemiological research projects.
- MASTER’S PROGRAMME in HUMAN NUTRITION AND METABOLISM
This master's programme is focused on strategies to promote healthy lifestyles from a Lifestyle Medicine perspective, prevent diseases, especially non-communicable chronic diseases, prevent metabolic malformation as a result of exposure to dietary factors during life in the womb, and active and healthy aging.
The Master’s programme in Human Nutrition and Metabolism prepares students to be able to diagnose and identify the causes and consequences associated with inappropriate eating habits, recognizing the molecular mechanisms of the disease involved.
- MASTER’S in PRIMARY CARE MENTAL HEALTH
