Application open for a MSc Student to work in Lysosomes in Chronic Human Pathologies and Infection at CEDOC-NMS. The deadline is December 22.

Admission requirements (eligibility criteria):
- Bachelor Degree (“Licenciado”) in the area of Biochemistry or related fields;
- Enrolment in a Master’s Degree in the area of Biochemistry or related fields or intend to enter one. (The Proof of enrolment in a Master’s Degree could be obtained until contracting. . 1 MSc Student Position @ EpiDoc Unit

Application open for a BSc holder enrolled on a MSc program to work in EpiDoc Unit at CEDOC-NMS. The deadline is November 26.

Applicants should hold a Bachelor Degree (“Licenciado”) in the area of physiotherapy, medicine, biomedical sciences, psychology, epidemiology or other related fields and be enroled in a Master’s Degree in the area of physiotherapy, medicine, biomedical sciences, psychology, epidemiology or related fields or intend to enter one.

The workplan is integrated in MyBack: project that aims to compare the effectiveness of a personalized self-management programme for low back pain recurrences and usual care compared to usual care alone, in patients seeking primary health care, while also seeking to pilot test the acceptability, feasibility and results of an implementation strategy designed to facilitate its adoption across patients and health professionals, through a hybrid type I, randomized, controlled and multicentre study of effectiveness and implementation.

. 1 Post Doc Position @ Rune Mathiesen Lab

Application open for a PhD holder in the Computational and Experimental Biology lab, led Rune Mathiesen at CEDOC NOVA Medical School. The deadline is October 28.

Applicants should hold a PhD degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or similar fields.

The candidate is intended to perform the following functions:
a) Assist in the development of a clinical test to detect malignant pleural effusion;
b) Perform Western blot and ELISA-based test;
c) Carry out the preparation of clinical pleural effusion samples for proteomics by mass spectrometry analysis;
d) Analyze mass spectrometry data.

Specific requirements of the application:
a) Experience with Western blot, ELISA or other methodologies for detecting proteins in liquid biopsies;
b) Experience working with clinical samples;
c) Working knowledge of proteomic sample preparation and data analysis.

. 2 Research Positions @ Catarina Homem Lab

Applications are invited for a two research positions, one post doctoral and one research assistant, to study “The mechanisms of neuron development” in the Proliferation and Fate Regulation in Stem Cells lab led by C. Homem at CEDOC-Nova Medical School. The deadline is October 30, 2021.

We are seeking two highly motivated candidates to join our studies on neuron development.

Applicants for the post doc position should hold a PhD degree in a relevant subject area. Experience with cell imaging and Drosophila would be advantageous but not essential. The position is initially funded for one year, with possibilities of extension for two additional years. Candidates are also expected to apply for competitive funding sources.

Applicants for the research assistant position should hold a Master degree in a Biology related area. The ideal candidate has an interest in developmental biology and neuroscience, laboratory experience, proficiency in English and the ability to work independently, creatively and efficiently. The position is funded for one year, with possibilities of continuing in the context of a PhD degree.

. 1 Assistant Researcher @ CEDOC-NMS

An international call for one Assistant Researcher, at CEDOC-NMS, in the scientific area of Biomedicine with special emphasis on the area of cellular and molecular biology is open. The deadline is October 5, 2021 (0h00).

Candidates must:
a) hold a PhD degree in the areas of Life Sciences, Health Sciences, or similar areas.
b) have a relevant curriculum in the areas of Cell Biology, with relevance in the themes that fall within the scientific strategy of the Research Center of NOVA Medical School, CEDOC – Chronic Diseases Research Centre (Centro de Estudos de Doenças Crónicas).

For the assessment of the Curriculum vitae, it will be mandatory considering the number and quality (namely that reflected in citations) of publications as well as the ability to raise funding in national and competitive internationals.

A call for applications for two research initiation grants (BII), supervised by Nuno Neuparth, head of Integrated Pathophysiological Mechanisms Lab, is open. Deadline is September 10, 2021 (11 pm).

. 1 Post-Doc Fellowhsip @ Cláudia Almeida Lab

An international call for one postdoctoral research fellowship, under the supervision of Cláudia Almeida, leader of the Neuronal Trafficking in Aging Lab, is now open. Deadline is September 5, 2021.

The Postdoctoral Researcher, expected to have a recent PhD in neurosciences, will establish a novel synaptic function for CD2AP and determine the impact of a Alzheimer’s mutation in CD2AP on synapses. The experimental approach includes microscopy-based cell biology and neurosciences assays, electrophysiology recordings using multi-electrode arrays, as well as proteomic analysis. The postdoc is expected to be creative, and to show initiative, and will be mentored to become the project leader, to write manuscripts and to communicate at international meetings.

. 1 Research Fellowship @ Cláudia Almeida Lab

Research fellowship for Bachelor holders, under the supervision of Cláudia Almeida, head of the Neuronal Trafficking in Aging lab. Deadline is August 28, 2021.

6-month fellowship, with renewal possibilities, in the scope of the project "Recapitulating late-onset Alzheimer's disease in a three dimensional human neural cell model". Candidates should have:

. 1 PhD Position @ João Conde Lab

New PhD Position supervised by João Conde, group leader of the Nanomedicine lab. Deadline is August 23rd.

The candidate will be involved in the synthesis and characterization of hybrid nanoparticles and hydrogels for local therapy using multicolor miRNA circuits for breast cancer in vitro and in vivo. He will also be involved in the evaluation of therapeutic efficacy and tumor heterogeneity profiling in different types of breast cancer in in vitro and in vivo tumor models.

Requirements are the enrolment in a PhD in the field of Biomedicine or intend to enter one; enthusiasm for science, scientific rigor, critical thinking, proactivity and resilience; good teamwork and interpersonal skills; excellent communication and writing skills; excellent command of the English language; previous experience (preferred) in at least one of the following research fields:

New Post-Doc Position to develop specific research activities under the guidance of the group leader within the scope of the ERC project, in the Molecular Nutrition and Health group.

Candidates should hold a PhD degree in the field of Life Sciences and a scientific and professional curriculum that reveals a profile appropriate to the activity to be developed.

The Molecular Mechanisms of Disease Lab @ CEDOC - Centro de Estudos de Doenças Crónicas is seeking for highly motivated MSc students work on 2 projects:

Project 1) Evaluating the protective effect of berries-derived polyphenol metabolites in mouse retina degeneration. Under the supervision of Sandra Tenreiro, Luísa Lemos from Molecular Mechanisms of Disease Lab and Cláudia N. Santos from Molecular Nutrition and Health Lab. In this project the following tasks will be performed:
i) Characterization of the retinal degeneration induced by 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)
ii) Evaluation of the protective/ treatment effect of berries-derived polyphenol metabolites on retina degeneration induced by MPTP
iii) Evaluation of the protective/ treatment effect of berries-derived polyphenol metabolites on retina function affected by MPTP by microelectrode array.

Project 2) The Role of Lysosomes in the Pathogenesis of Choroideremia. Under the supervision of Pedro Antas from Molecular Mechanisms of Disease Lab. In this project the following tasks will be performed:
i) Study the contribution of necroptosis to CHM pathology.
ii) Characterize the lysosomal function and its repair mechanisms in the context of REP-1 loss.

. 1 Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship @ Cláudia's Almeida Lab

An international call for one postdoctoral research fellowship under the project entitled “Understanding the Impact of a Late-Onset Alzheimer's Disease Mutation in CD2AP on Synapses", at Neuronal trafficking in aging Lab, under the supervision and mentoring of Cláudia Guimas Almeida, at the Center of Chronic Diseases Research – CEDOC of the NOVA Medical School | Universidade NOVA de Lisboa of Lisbon, is open.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will develop a novel cellular model of late-onset Alzheimeir’s disease using human neurons differentiated from hIPSCs edited with CrisPR-CAS9 with the patient’s mutations, to evaluate how Alzheimer’s late-onset mutations disrupt neuronal function.
Candidates must hold a PhD in Neurosciences or equivalent (PhD defended in the last 3 months or to be defended until the end of April). Failure to meet these requirements is sufficient to exclude candidates.

. FCT PhD Fellowships – Otília Vieira's Lab

Two project proposals suitable for application to FCT PhD fellowships, under the supervision of Otília Vieira and André Marques from the Lysosomes in Chronic Human Pathologies and Infection Group, CEDOC, NMS. One project aims to address the molecular mechanisms underlying lysosome dysfunction in atherosclerosis and the other is focused on the study of the anti-inflammatory potential of various natural compounds using zebrafish models.

. Research Fellowship - CHRC - Comprehensive Health Research Centre

There are 2 ERC funded positions available for candidates who are enthusiastic about science, scientific rigor, critical thinking, proactivity and resilience.
Candidates should have previous experience in at least, one of the following research fields: nano and biomaterials; gene therapy; tumor targeting; drug delivery; cancer therapy and immunotherapy.

1 ERC funded position for a postdoctoral fellow is currently open for a highly motivated candidate to join the Proliferation and Fate Regulation of Stem Cells Lab.

The research project aims to study how neural and adult stem cell fate is regulated by transcriptional networks and metabolism using the fruit fly as a model. . Post-Doctoral position - Otília Vieira Lab

A Posdoctoral research contract is available in the Lysosomes in Chronic Human Pathologies and Infection Lab at CEDOC. The posdoc will work on the pro-atherogenic potential of a novel family of oxidized lipids, identified by shotgun lipidomics in cardiovascular disease patients, in cells and animal models. The potential on these lipids in prognosis and diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases will also be assessed. This project will be carried together with cardiologists from Hospital Santa Cruz, Carnaxide (Lisbon area) and a German Lipidomics company.
