Today, 15 September, is the Day of the Serviço Nacional de Saúde (SNS), marking the 42nd anniversary since its creation in 1979.

To help celebrate this anniversary, you can watch to our interview with Miguel Xavier, Professor at NOVA Medical School, Principal Investigator at the Mental Health Needs & Interventions laboratory at CEDOC and Psychiatrist at Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Ocidental.

The Professor talks about the historical importance of the SNS and its current obstacles. He also tells us how the COVID-19 pandemic affected mental health and how the Programa Nacional da Saúde Mental, part of the priority program at Direção Geral de Saúde (DGS) and of which he is Director, can help everyone in Portugal treating mild and moderate mental health problems.
