PhD Student Ana Chegão participated on the European Neuroscience Conference by Doctoral Students (ENCODS), in partnership with the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS), and received the award of "Best Poster", which was titled: "Glycation induces Parkinson’s disease-like phenotypes in a mouse model of synucleinopathies via dysregulation of glutamatergic signaling and synaptic transmission".

Ana is being supervised by Doctor Hugo Vicente Miranda leader of the DysBrainD lab and is exploring how type-2 Diabetes Mellitus contributes for Parkinson’s Disease. They have recently focused on how can glycation (the reaction between sugars and proteins) contribute for the development of this neurodegenerative disease. In particular, they are investigating how glycation impacts brain proteins and determins its consequences in both motor and non-motor behaviour in mice, hoping it will unveil novel therapeutic approaches for Parkinson’s disease.
