Hugo Vicente Miranda wins SPD prize for project linking diabetes and Parkinson's

Hugo Vicente Miranda, principal investigator of the DysBrainD lab, has just accepted the national prize from Sociedade Portuguesa de Diabetologia, to develop a project linking diabetes and Parkinson's disease.

The Prémio Nacional de Diabetologia was presented to Hugo Vicente Miranda yesterday by Sociedade Portuguesa de Diabetologia in the rectory of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where all lab members were also present for this prestigious event. This award of 20.000 euros will allow the study of Insuline Degrading Enzyme (IDE) and how the low levels of this protein in the brain might be connected the accumulation and aggregation of α-synuclein, an hallmark of Parkinson's disease that leads to neuronal death.
