Helena Canhão, Professor at NOVA Medical School and Coordinator of the NOVAsaúde Ageing group, was one of the judges of the “Ideas que Mudam o Mundo” award, which brings together Bayer and Expresso. This award aims to finance original and innovative community support projects developed by public utility associations.
The also Principal Investigator of the EpiDoc Unit - Epidemiology of Chronic Diseases Group at CEDOC, explained the fundamental role that civil society and institutions play in improving the living conditions of the population, particularly in the context of health and aging.
The first place (and a prize of 25.000 euros) was awarded to Casa de Saúde da Idanha - Instituto das Irmãs Hospitaleiras, with its community brain gym that stimulates the cognitive abilities of the senior population. The second place and 20.000 euros, were delivered to the Programa Abem: Rede Solidária do Medicamento, da Associação Dignitude, which seeks to facilitate the access of all Portuguese to prescribed medications.
