Serology4COVID consortium, composed by five research institutes CEDOC-NMS, iBET, IGC, iMM and ITQB NOVA, closed a serological test license agreement for the detection of antibodies to SARS-Cov-2 with the Portuguese company Medinfar, leader in the areas of Consumer Healthcare and Dermatology
The consortium also guarantees access to the knowledge produced, making the protein and the respective protocol available to Research Centers in Portugal and in African Portuguese Speaking Countries (PALOP) interested in developing academic studies on the SARS-CoV-2 virus, including conducting serological studies on the respective employees of the institutions.

The serological test developed by the consortium, was initially applied in several academic studies promoted by the consortium partners:
- 8000 tests carried out by IGC in the scope of the pilot project with the Almeirim City Council and in the monitoring project of - 1500 health professionals started in April;
- 3500 tests carried out by iMM in the scope of the COVID-19 test campaign carried out by the University of Lisbon and projects with the Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte, the Faculty of Medicine and the Portuguese Institute of Blood and Transplantation
- 1645 tests carried out by CEDOC-NMS in the scope of Serological Screening to the community of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa.
Serology4COVID fulfills its purpose: to develop a scalable and economical serological test for COVID-19, entirely done in Portugal, a strategic tool to learn about the expansion of immunity in the population and support the implementation of measures to control the disease with a view to minimize the consequences of this pandemic on health, society and the economy.
The Consortium received financial support from Fundo de Emergência Covid-19 from Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Sociedade Francisco Manuel dos Santos and Câmara Municipal de Oeiras.

Consórcio Serology4COVID, de cinco instituições de investigação científica - CEDOC-NMS,iBET, IGC, iMM e ITQB NOVA, fechou o acordo de licença do teste serológico para deteção de anticorpos para o SARS-Cov-2 à empresa portuguesa Medinfar, líder nas áreas de Consumer Healthcare e Dermatologia.
Garantindo o acesso ao conhecimento produzido, o consórcio Serology4COVID vai passar a disponibilizar a proteína e o respetivo protocolo aos Centros de Investigação em Portugal e nos Países Africanos de Língua Oficial Portuguesa (PALOP) interessados em desenvolver estudos académicos sobre o vírus SARS-CoV-2 (incluindo a realização de estudos serológicos aos respetivos colaboradores das instituições).

O teste serológico desenvolvido pelo consórcio, foi inicialmente aplicado em diversos estudos académicos promovidos pelos parceiros do consórcio: 8000 testes realizados pelo IGC no âmbito do projeto piloto com a Câmara Municipal de Almeirim e no projeto de monitorização de 1500 profissionais de saúde iniciado em Abril; 3500 testes realizados pelo iMM no âmbito da campanha de testes COVID-19 realizada pela Universidade de Lisboa e de projetos com o Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte, a Faculdade de Medicina e o Instituto Português do Sangue e Transplantação e 1645 pelo CEDOC-NMS no âmbito do Rastreio Serológico à comunidade da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa.
O Serology4COVID cumpre o seu propósito: desenvolver um teste serológico para a COVID-19, escalável e económico, totalmente feito em Portugal, uma ferramenta estratégica para conhecer a expansão da imunidade na população e suportar a implementação de medidas de controlo da doença com vista a minimizar as consequências desta pandemia para a saúde, sociedade e economia.
