António Bugalho, Cristina Caroça and Guadalupe Cabral, researchers from NOVA Medical School|Faculdade de Ciências Médicas, Integrated Pathophysiological Mechanisms Lab, DNA Damage and Repair Lab and Tissue Repair and Inflammation Lab, respectively, were distinguished by Tagus Academic Network for Knowledge – Tagus TANK – during the award ceremony of the Research Projects in Medicine competition.
Each Researcher got awarded 20K for their research projects in medicine. António Bugalho looks to find innovative approaches to target tumor-draining lymph nodes in lung cancer patients, while
Cristina Caroça will focus on G6PD deficiency and possible association of hearing loss or absence of speech in São Tomé and Príncipe. Moreover, Guadalupe Cabral and her team study the relationship between breast cancer and the immune systems, and now look to validate biomarkers of breast cancer aggressiveness and patient response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy, in order to make the treatments available more efficient.
The “Projetos de Investigação em Medicina” program developed by Tagus TANK aims to promote and finance projects that stimulate the development of new lines of medical research of excellence. Tagus TANK is a consortium formed by Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and José de Mello Saúde, that aims to promote health knowledge, support clinical research in Portugal and promote new forms of cooperation in areas related to Medicine, Law, Management or Engineering in Health.
