The promising lung fluid proteins

Rune Matthiesen, group leader of Computational and Experimental Biology Lab, recently published a study on Scientific Reports revealing new possibilities in the early diagnosis of lung cancer. This study was developed for an international team, counting with CEDOC investigator Ana Sofia Carvalho.

In this study were included 90 suspected lung cancer cases followed for two years. It was performed a mass spectrometry based on proteome analysis of acellular bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid samples. The results showed potential biomarkers with significantly differential expression when comparing lung cancer versus non-lung cancer. These data provide an important source of information for diagnosis. As lung cancer is one of the deadliest types of cancer it is essential develop news ways to diagnose this disease early.
