The 1st edition of the NOVA Science Day took place on September 10th, with more than 350 participants. Organized by the NOVA Research Office, this meeting aimed not only to show and boost the science done at NOVA, but also to promote the academic units and research centres.
Director-General of European Commission for Research, Science and Innovation, Dr. Jean-Eric Paquet, and the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, Professor Manuel Heitor, were the keynote speakers. Dr. Jean-Eric Paquet highlighted the impactful research developed at NOVA University, and Heitor stresses the importance of Open Access and the importance of a mission oriented research to mobilize not only researchers but also fully engaged citizens.
Dr. Raffaella Gozzelino, Principal Investigator of the Inflammation and Neurodegeneration group at CEDOC, was awarded the Santander Totta-NOVA Collaborative Research Award for her collaborative research alongside Doctor Ana Margarida Ferreira, from the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (FCSH), and Doctor Pedro Neves, from NOVA School of Business and Economics (NOVA SBE). The 2017/2018 edition rewarded the investigators for their study on the mechanisms and implications of stress in the decision-making and performance.

NMS|FCM and CEDOC were represented by Professor António Jacinto, CEDOC coordinator and vice-director of the executive council of NMS|FCM, in a flash presentation regarding the institution’s biomedical research, mainly highlights, human power, statistics and outreach. The afternoon poster session displayed posters from CEDOC, ToxOmics and the CoLAB Value4Health, a partnership between NMS, José de Mello Saúde, Fraunhofer Portugal and Vodafone, that can now be viewed at the lobby of building CEDOC II (grey building).
