Today, October 29th 2021, we observe World Stroke Day, in unison with the World Stroke Organization.

When someone has a stroke, every second that passes is crucial. As brain tissue and millions of neurons begin to disappear, time could not be more precious. The #PreciousTime campaign aims to raise awareness about the signs of stroke and the benefits of timely access to emergency medical care.

As such, we spoke with Dr. João Pedro Marto, a neurologist at Hospital Egas Moniz (CHLO) and clinical researcher at Professor Miguel Viana Batista's laboratory, Neurology: Stroke and Dementia. Among many other topics, the group is dedicated to the investigation of ischemic stroke in various population segments and how some medication can enhance the event of a stroke, as well as studies more focused on educating younger populations to recognize symptomatic signs.

He told us about the urgency of action in case of a stroke and how to identify the signs to seek immediate medical help. See the video below.
